اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This supplication is particularly relevant during times of drought and when seeking the blessings of rain. It can be recited frequently when rain is scarce, or as part of a collective prayer for rainfall.
How to Read
Raise your hands in supplication, mimicking the Prophet's ﷺ actions during istisqa (prayer for rain). It is recommended to face the Qiblah, and if possible, to perform Ghusl (ritual bath) beforehand as a sign of purity and earnestness. The repetition of "Allahumma aghithna" three times emphasizes the urgency and deep reliance on Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would repeat this supplication three times when seeking rain. This act of earnest repetition shows the importance of turning to Allah in times of need. Rain itself is a mercy from Allah, bringing life to the land and sustenance to His creation. Furthermore, seeking rain can be an avenue for seeking Allah's forgiveness, as drought and hardship are sometimes seen as a consequence of our sins. The act of sincere supplication, especially for a communal need like rain, is a powerful means of drawing closer to Allah and reflecting on His blessings and our dependence on Him.

Narrated Anas: The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ about the drought, while he was delivering the Friday sermon. He then said, 'O Allah, grant us rain.' He repeated this three times. He said, 'I bear witness that Allah is Able to do everything, and I am His slave and His Messenger.' Then he descended (from the pulpit) and prayed, and the sky became clear and it rained. In another narration, it is mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ raised his hands and supplicated: 'O Allah, send down upon us beneficial rain, not punishing rain, not destructive rain, not flooding rain. O Allah, (send it) upon the surrounding areas and not upon us.' He repeated it three times. (Sahih al-Bukhari 1014, Sahih Muslim 897)
