اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is specifically for times of drought and the need for rain. It's recited by the community, often during a congregational prayer or after observing the signs of extreme dryness. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself would make this supplication when it rained after a period of thirst for the land and its people.
How to Read
This is a direct, heartfelt plea to Allah. It's best recited with sincerity, raising hands as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ in supplication. It can be recited individually or, as is often the case in historical accounts, by a community collectively, seeking Allah's mercy. The repetition emphasizes the urgency and deep need for Allah's response.
Virtues & Benefits
The primary benefit is seeking Allah's mercy to relieve drought and provide essential sustenance through rainfall. This rain is not just water; it's a sign of Allah's mercy, a means of purifying the land, and a source of life. The act of seeking rain is intertwined with seeking Allah's forgiveness, as drought can be a consequence of our sins. The Prophet ﷺ also said, 'The people did not withhold the Zakat of their wealth except that they were deprived of rain; and were it not for the animals, it would not have rained upon them.' (Ibn Majah 4019, Hasan). This connects the physical need for rain with spiritual purity and obedience.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'While the Prophet ﷺ was on the pulpit, a man entered and asked, 'O Allah's Messenger! How is the supplication for rain?' The Prophet ﷺ raised his hands and said: 'O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!' Then he added, 'This is a supplication for rain.'
