اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is specifically recited during times of drought and water scarcity. It was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions to make this earnest supplication when the land was parched and in need of Allah's mercy in the form of rain.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, raising your hands as the Prophet ﷺ would during supplication. It is recommended to repeat it three times. Imagine the parched earth and the need of people and animals for water. Remember that Allah's mercy is vast, and He responds to the sincere call of His servant.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through supplication is a direct manifestation of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah). It acknowledges our absolute dependence on Him for sustenance. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself would pray for rain, demonstrating its importance. The immediate response to such a prayer can alleviate hardship, bring life back to the land, and remind us of Allah's power and generosity. The rain itself is a mercy from Allah, bringing life to the earth: 'And it is He who sends the winds as good tidings preceding His mercy, and We send down pure water by which We give life to a dead land and provide it to those We created of animals and many of mankind.' (Al-Furqan 25:48-49).

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man entered the Masjid on Friday and the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering the Khutbah. The man stood up and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, the animals have perished and the roads are cut off, so pray to Allah for us.' So the Prophet (ﷺ) raised his hands and said: 'Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna' (O Allah, grant us rain, O Allah, grant us rain, O Allah, grant us rain). He then said: 'O Allah, give us rain, let it be a refreshing downpour, not a destructive flood, and not a drought.' Sahih al-Bukhari 1014.
