اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is specifically recited during times of drought or when seeking rain. It reflects the urgency and deep need of the community for Allah's mercy, which manifests through rain. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often perform the Istisqa (prayer for rain) and make this heartfelt plea when the land was dry and people were suffering.
How to Read
This supplication is a direct plea to Allah. It's recommended to recite it with sincerity, raising your hands as the Prophet ﷺ would when making dua for rain. The repetition emphasizes the earnestness of the request. It is often recited after the Eid prayer or during a specific prayer for rain (Salat al-Istisqa). The spiritual aspect is key: remember that rain is not just a physical necessity but a sign of Allah's mercy and a means of spiritual cleansing and renewal for our hearts and land.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through sincere dua connects us directly to Allah's attribute of Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful). Rain is a divine blessing that sustains life, purifies the earth, and brings forth growth. When we pray for it, we are acknowledging our dependence on Allah and seeking His mercy, which can also cleanse our spiritual maladies. The Quran reminds us: 'And it is He who sends the winds as bearers of good tidings preceding His mercy, and We send down from the sky pure water' (Al-Furqan 25:48). This dua, therefore, seeks both physical sustenance and spiritual purification, understanding that both are gifts from our Creator.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: 'The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ about the drought that occurred during the time of his life. So, he ordered to bring the pulpit for him to the Musalla (place of prayer). He promised to come out to them on a fixed day. So, they came out on that day, and Allah's Messenger ﷺ also came out. He prayed with them. He said the Takbir and supplicated for them, asking Allah for rain. Then he delivered a sermon. He said: 'As for what follows: I have informed you that you will be met by your Lord, and you will be asked about your deeds.' He then descended and prayed two rak'at for them and said: 'This is the prayer of the two rak'at (like the prayer of) Maghrib.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 1014)
