Rain
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 1014

اللَّهُمَّ أغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أغِثْنَا

O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain! O Allah, grant us rain!

Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna

When to Read

This plea is made when the land is parched, crops are wilting, and there is a genuine need for rain. It's a direct call to Allah for His mercy, especially crucial before planting or during dry spells that threaten livelihoods and food security.

How to Read

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often raise his hands towards the sky when making supplication for rain, indicating a posture of earnest seeking and reliance on Allah. This dua is repeated three times, emphasizing the urgency and sincerity of the request. It is best recited with a humble heart, recognizing our absolute dependence on Allah for all provisions, including the life-giving rain.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking rain through dua is a profound act of worship, acknowledging Allah as the sole provider (Ar-Razzāq). It reflects our understanding that sustenance, including the rain that nourishes our crops and sustains our lives, comes directly from Him. The Quran reminds us, 'And it is He who sends down rain from the sky, and We bring forth thereby growth of every kind...' (Al-An'am 6:99). Making dua for rain is a way of asking Allah to continue His blessings upon the earth, ensuring not just our immediate needs but the continuity of life and provision for all creation.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: When the Prophet (ﷺ) wanted to invoke Allah for rain, he would raise his hands until the whiteness of his armpits was visible and would say: 'Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna.' (O Allah, grant us rain, O Allah, grant us rain, O Allah, grant us rain).
