اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This powerful dua is traditionally recited during the Istisqa (prayer for rain). It's appropriate to invoke when the land is dry, crops are withering, and the signs of drought appear, aiming to seek Allah's mercy for sustenance, including the germination and growth of all planted seeds.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and a hopeful heart, turning towards the Qiblah (direction of prayer). Raising your hands is customary when seeking rain from Allah. It can be recited individually or collectively during times of need. Remember to also reflect on Allah's power over the elements and acknowledge our dependence on Him for all provisions.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain is a fundamental supplication for the well-being of the community and the sustenance of life. A drought affects crops, livestock, and ultimately, human sustenance. By making this dua, we acknowledge Allah's role as the Provider (Ar-Raziq) and His control over the skies and the earth's bounty. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to make this specific plea during times of need, showing us the importance of turning to Allah in all circumstances. This supplication reflects our reliance on Him for the very essence of life's growth, from the smallest seed to the largest tree.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The people complained to Allah's Messenger ﷺ during a drought that occurred during his time, while he was delivering a sermon. He said: 'You pray to Allah for rain. Then he said: 'O Allah, water Your slaves and Your cattle and spread Your mercy and revive Your dead land, for Your are the only one who spreads Your mercy and revives the dead.'
