Rain
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 1013

اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا

O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.

Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna

When to Read

This dua is specifically recited during the Prayer of Seeking Rain (Salat al-Istisqa) or can be recited individually when a community is facing severe drought and lack of rainfall, seeking Allah's mercy.

How to Read

This dua, as narrated, was recited by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ multiple times during the Istisqa prayer, raising his hands and turning his back towards the Qiblah. It is a supplication of earnest need and reliance on Allah. When reciting individually, one should face the Qiblah, raise their hands, and make sincere supplication with humility and certainty that Allah is capable of answering.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking rain through dua is a direct act of worship, acknowledging Allah's complete control over all provisions. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this specific supplication out of immense concern for his Ummah. Rain is a mercy from Allah, essential for life, and its absence is a sign that calls for repentance and seeking forgiveness. The act of making dua during times of hardship strengthens our connection with Allah and reminds us of our dependence on Him.

Source & Authentication

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: While the Prophet (ﷺ) was delivering the Friday sermon, the men came to him and complained about the lack of rain. So he raised his hands and said: "O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain." He then turned to the pulpit and recited the following verse: "Ask forgiveness from your Lord; for He is Oft-Forgiving, (and He will send) you reinforcements of wealth and children from you will have gardens and rivers (of sustenance)." (Surah Nuh, 71:10-12).
