اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain; O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is specifically for times of drought or when rain is desperately needed for crops, livestock, and the general well-being of the community. It is most effective when recited with sincere intention and earnestness, especially during the congregational prayer for rain (Salat al-Istisqa).
How to Read
When drought strikes and the need for rain is apparent, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to turn to Allah with this simple yet profound supplication. It is often recited multiple times, as seen in the narration, to emphasize the urgency and dependence on Allah's mercy. It is recommended to raise hands while making this dua, especially when it's a personal supplication or during the Imam's dua in Salat al-Istisqa. Facing the Qiblah is also a sign of respect and focus towards Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through dua is a demonstration of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and our utter reliance on Him for sustenance. It reminds us that Allah is the ultimate provider and controller of all natural phenomena. By invoking His mercy, we not only seek relief from hardship but also express our gratitude for His countless blessings. The Prophet's ﷺ own practice of making this dua during times of need shows its importance and effectiveness in seeking Allah's direct intervention.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The people mentioned to the Prophet (ﷺ) that the land was parched and they asked him to invoke Allah for rain. So, the Prophet (ﷺ) stood up and invoked Allah for rain. Then, it rained from the sky. And the people were delighted. Then it rained on the following day, and the people were delighted. Then it rained on the day after that, and it rained and rained until the extent of the place was filled with rain. So, the people asked the Prophet (ﷺ) to ask Allah to stop it. So, the Prophet (ﷺ) invoked Allah to stop it, and the clouds dispersed." So Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: "Oh Allah, around us and not upon us." So the clouds dispersed over him (ﷺ) and the rain stopped over Medina, and it rained around them." Sahih al-Bukhari 1009.
