اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This dua is recited when Muslims are experiencing drought or a lack of rain. It's a supplication made to Allah (Glory be to Him) during times of need, seeking His mercy and provision. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often make this specific dua when praying for rain, especially during the congregational prayer for rain (Salat al-Istisqa).
How to Read
This dua should be recited with sincerity and a humble heart. It's beneficial to raise your hands while reciting it, as this is a Sunnah practice during supplication. It's also recommended to face the Qiblah and to make sincere repentance for any sins before or while making the dua. The repetition emphasizes the urgency and earnestness of the request.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through dua is a direct acknowledgment of Allah's power and control over all creation. It highlights our dependence on Him for our sustenance. By asking for rain, we are asking for life itself, as rain nourishes the earth, allows crops to grow, and provides water for all living beings. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ's practice of this dua shows its importance and the merit in turning to Allah during times of need. Allah (Exalted is He) states in the Quran: 'And it is He who sends the winds as bearers of good tidings preceding His mercy, and We send down from the sky pure water – so that We may give life thereby to a dead land and provide it to the creatures We have created, of cattle and men, in great numbers.' (Al-Furqan 25:48-49)

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'A man entered the Masjid on Friday and the Prophet ﷺ was standing and delivering the Khutbah. The man said: 'O Allah's Messenger! Pray to Allah to bestow his blessings on us, for the rain is withheld.' The Prophet ﷺ raised his hands and said: 'O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.' Anas added: 'There was no cloud in the sky.' By Him in Whose Hand is my life! He (the Prophet ﷺ) then turned to us and said: 'It is raining now.' Then it rained continuously till Friday, and on the next Friday the man stood up, and the Prophet ﷺ was delivering the Khutbah. The man said: 'O Allah's Messenger! Pray to Allah to withhold it from us.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Allah! Around us and not on us.' He said: 'It started raining on the surrounding areas only.' Sahih al-Bukhari 1014
