اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا، اللَّهُمَّ أَغِثْنَا
O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain. O Allah, grant us rain.
Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna, Allahumma aghithna
When to Read
This earnest plea is uttered when the land is dry and rain is desperately needed. It's a communal supplication, often made after Salah (prayer) during a drought, or when observing the signs of extreme dryness. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself would make this dua when seeking rain.
How to Read
Recite this simple yet profound dua with sincerity and a heart full of hope. It's recommended to raise your hands as the Prophet ﷺ would do when making supplication for rain. It's also a sunnah to turn one's cloak inside out as a symbolic gesture, signifying a change in the situation and a turning towards Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking rain through dua is a direct act of worship (`ibadah`) and a demonstration of our complete reliance on Allah. The Quran reminds us that rain is a mercy from Allah, a blessing that revitalizes the earth and sustains life. Allah says: "And it is He who sends down rain from the sky, and We produce thereby the growth of all things." (Surah Al-An'am 6:99). When rain falls after a period of drought, it is a sign of Allah's response to the believers' supplication, bringing relief and renewed life, as the Prophet ﷺ mentioned: "None can prevent the cessation of rain except supplication, and none can prolong it except (having a desire for it)." (Sunan Ibn Majah 4020 - Hasan)
