O Allah, I ask You by Your knowledge of the unseen and Your power over creation. Keep me alive as long as You know that life is better for me, and cause me to die when You know that death is better for me. O Allah, I ask You to instill in me the fear of You, whether in private or in public. I ask You to grant me the word of truth in times of contentment and anger. I ask You for moderation in poverty and wealth. I ask You for everlasting bliss and unfading joy. I ask You for contentment after Your decree. I ask You for a pleasant life after death. I ask You for the delight of looking at Your Face and the eagerness to meet You. I seek refuge in You from the harmful and misleading tribulations. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith, make us guides who are guided, and include us among the righteous. O Allah, grant us security in our fears, accept our deeds, and guide us. Make us love You and love Your Messenger, and make us love Your righteous servants. Help us to achieve that. O Allah, forgive our offspring and let our good deeds reach them. Make them a source of comfort for our eyes in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, make them safe and victorious, secure in themselves and their possessions. Make them blessed wherever they may be. Protect them from their front and their back, from their right and their left, and from above them. I seek refuge in Your Greatness from being consumed from beneath them.

When to Read

This is a comprehensive dua that can be recited at any time, especially after prayers, in the morning and evening, or when seeking specific protection and blessings for one's children and family. It is particularly relevant when children are young, when facing potential dangers, or when simply desiring for them to grow into righteous individuals.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of the words. It is recommended to raise your hands slightly while making this dua. You can recite it individually or as a family. It is also beneficial to teach these words to your children so they can also make similar supplications for themselves as they grow.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses a vast range of requests for both the present and the Hereafter. It seeks Allah's protection from harm, guidance, contentment, and everlasting bliss. Specifically for children, it asks for them to be righteous, a source of joy for their parents, safe, blessed, and protected from all evil. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this profound supplication to ensure comprehensive well-being for ourselves and our descendants.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah bin Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to teach them this supplication as he used to teach them a Surah of the Qur'an. He said: 'Say: O Allah, I ask You for firmness in my affair, and I ask You for the resolve to follow the right guidance, and I ask You for gratitude for Your blessings and for good health and for the completion of Your favour upon me, and I ask You for a good heart, and I ask You for truthfulness until death, and I ask You for the resolve to gain the good of this world and the good of the Hereafter. I seek refuge in You from injustice and oppression, and from misguidance and straying. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, for verily You know what is in the breast of man.' He also said: 'Say: O Allah, I ask You for the good which Your servant and Your Prophet asked of You. And I seek refuge in You from the evil from which Your servant and Your Prophet sought refuge in You.' He said: 'O Allah, forgive me my sins, and turn my heart to Your obedience.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 1547). The text provided in the Arabic section is a more elaborate version often used, containing elements of this comprehensive request for well-being and offspring.
