Prophetic Duas
Sahih HadithSahih Ibn Hibban 2430

اللَّهُمَّ لا سَهْلَ إِلاَّ مَا جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلاً، وَأَنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الحَزْنَ إِذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلاً

O Allah, there is no ease except that which You make easy. If You will, You can make hardship easy.

Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja'altahu sahla, wa anta taj'alu al-hazna idha shi'ta sahla

When to Read

This dua is particularly poignant for situations of difficulty, and it is profoundly relevant during labor and childbirth. When a woman is experiencing a challenging or prolonged labor, or when facing any significant hardship, reciting this dua with sincere conviction can bring immense solace and strength. It's a supplication to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) to transform the hardship into ease, a prayer that is especially needed when the body is undergoing the intense physical exertion of bringing new life into the world.

How to Read

Recite this dua with a clear heart and firm belief in Allah's power over all matters. It can be recited by the expectant mother herself, her husband, family members, or anyone present who wishes to offer support and seek Allah's mercy. Focus on the meaning of the words: acknowledging that all ease comes from Allah alone, and trusting in His ability to alleviate any difficulty. It's a practice of turning to the Divine during a critical moment, seeking His intervention and grace.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua embodies the core Islamic principle of Tawakkul (reliance on Allah) while actively seeking His help. By acknowledging that ease is solely from Allah, we humble ourselves and recognize our dependence on His will. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a means to seek relief from distress and hardship. For childbirth, it represents a profound appeal to Allah for a safe and smooth delivery, trusting that He can make what seems impossible, possible. It instills hope and reduces anxiety during what can be an overwhelming experience.

Source & Authentication

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ faced a difficult task, he would say: 'O Allah, there is no ease except that which You make easy, and You make hardship easy if You wish.' (Sahih Ibn Hibban 2430). This hadith, while general in its wording, highlights the Prophet's ﷺ practice of turning to Allah with specific supplications during times of challenge. The principle applies directly to the profound challenge and potential difficulty of childbirth, a significant trial that requires divine assistance.
