O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all matters, and the resolve to follow what is right. I ask You for the ability to be grateful for Your favours and to worship You in the best manner. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the good that You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil that You know. I ask Your forgiveness for what You know, for You are the Knower of all unseen things.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-thabata fil-amr, wal-'azeemata 'alar-rushd, wa as'aluka shukra ni'matik, wa husna 'ibadatik, wa as'aluka qalban saleeman, wa lisaanan sadaqan, wa as'aluka min khayri ma ta'lamu, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lamu, wa astaghfiruka lima ta'lamu, innaka anta 'allamul-ghuyoob.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for spiritual and moral strength. By asking for 'steadfastness in all matters' (الثَّبَاتَ فِي الأَمْرِ), you're seeking Allah's help to remain firm in your faith, your commitments, and your good deeds, even when faced with challenges. The request for 'resolve to follow what is right' (العَزِيمَةَ عَلَى الرُّشْدِ) is a plea for the determination needed to make sound decisions and adhere to them. Furthermore, asking for the 'ability to be grateful' (شُكْرَ نِعْمَتِكَ) and 'to worship You in the best manner' (حُسْنَ عِبَادَتِكَ) highlights the importance of acknowledging Allah's blessings and fulfilling our obligations with devotion. The inclusion of a 'sound heart' (قَلْبًا سَلِيمًا) and 'truthful tongue' (لِسَانًا صَادِقًا) addresses the inner and outer aspects of character that are crucial for fulfilling promises and maintaining integrity. Ultimately, this dua is a powerful tool for seeking Allah's aid in becoming a person of strong character, integrity, and unwavering commitment.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي بْنِ كَعْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُعَلِّمُنَا مِنَ الْفِتَنِ كَمَا يُعَلِّمُنَا السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ، فَقَالَ: ‏ "‏ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الثَّبَاتَ فِي الأَمْرِ، وَالْعَزِيمَةَ عَلَى الرُّشْدِ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ شُكْرَ نِعْمَتِكَ، وَحُسْنَ عِبَادَتِكَ، وَأَسْأَلُكَ قَلْبًا سَلِيمًا، وَلِسَانًا صَادِقًا، وَأَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ مَا تَعْلَمُ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا تَعْلَمُ، وَأَسْتَغْفِرُكَ لِمَا تَعْلَمُ، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ عَلَّامُ الغُيُوبِ ‏"‏‏.‏ Translation: It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach them the supplications for protection against the trials of the Dajjal, just as he used to teach them a Surah from the Qur'an. He would say: "O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all matters, and the resolve to follow what is right. I ask You for the ability to be grateful for Your favours and to worship You in the best manner. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the good that You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil that You know. I ask Your forgiveness for what You know, for You are the Knower of all unseen things."
