اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الهُدَى وَالتُّقَى والعَفَافَ والغِنَى

O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.

Allahumma inni as'alukal huda wat tuqa wal 'afafa wal ghina

When to Read

This powerful dua is a cornerstone for anyone feeling lost, uncertain, or facing a difficult decision. It's perfect when you're experiencing confusion about your path, struggling with temptation, or simply seeking to live a more pleasing life to Allah. Recite it in the morning to set the tone for your day, or whenever you feel your resolve weakening or your mind clouded.

How to Read

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us the importance of sincerity and presence of heart when making dua. With certainty in Allah's response, raise your hands (if possible and appropriate for the situation) and recite this dua with clarity and reflection. Understand the meaning of each request: 'guidance' (to the right path), 'piety' (consciousness of Allah), 'chastity' (purity in actions and thoughts), and 'self-sufficiency' (contentment and freedom from neediness).

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a comprehensive request for spiritual and worldly well-being. Seeking guidance (Huda) ensures we stay on the straight path, avoiding misguidance. Piety (Tuqa) means cultivating Taqwa, the consciousness of Allah in all our actions, which is the key to success in this life and the next. Chastity ('Afaf) protects us from falling into sins and impropriety, leading to a pure heart and clear conscience. Self-sufficiency (Ghina) isn't about wealth, but about contentment and inner richness, freeing us from the excessive desires that can lead to hardship and distress. By asking for these four things, we are essentially asking for the best of both worlds.

Narrated Abdullah bin Mas'ud: The Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni as'alukal huda wat tuqa wal 'afafa wal ghina' (O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency). And he used to supplicate: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka al-jam'a minal amri wal 'azmata 'ala ar-rushdi wal hamidata 'ala an ni'mati wash-shukrata 'ala al 'afiyati wa as'aluka haal an 'ali, wal hamidata 'ala kulli ni'matin wa as'aluka kamal an ni'mati wa dawamaha wa as'aluka kamal ar-ridha ba'da al qada'i wa as'aluka bard al 'ayshi ba'da al mawt wa as'aluka ladhdhat an nazari ila wajhikash-shareefi wash-shawqa ila liqa'ika fi ghairi dharra'a mudhirratin wa la fitnatin mudillatin Allahumma Zaynana bi zinati al Iman waj'alna hudatan muh'tadeen. (O Allah, I ask You for the resolve to do good deeds and the strength to avoid evil deeds, and I ask You for gratefulness for blessings, and gratefulness for health, and I ask You for a heart that is sound, and a tongue that remembers You, and I ask You for the best of what You know, and I ask You for the perfection of blessings and their continuation, and I ask You for perfection of satisfaction after destiny, and I ask You for a pleasant life after death, and I ask You for the delight of looking at Your noble Face, and the yearning to meet You, without any harmful affliction or misleading temptation. O Allah, adorn us with the adornment of faith and make us guided and guides to the right path.) *Note: The provided entry focuses on the first part of the dua as per the initial request.*
