When to Read
Recite this dua daily, especially in the morning and evening. It's particularly beneficial when you feel yourself wavering in your resolve, facing situations that test your faith, or are exposed to various forms of temptation in your daily life – whether it's social media, peer pressure, or personal desires.
How to Read
Recite with sincere intention and a humble heart. Raise your hands as you make the dua, just as the Prophet ﷺ would. Focus on the meaning of each word and truly ask Allah for these essential qualities. Try to internalize the concepts of guidance, God-consciousness, purity, and self-sufficiency.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua encapsulates four fundamental pillars for a balanced and righteous life. 'Al-Huda' (guidance) directs us to the right path. 'At-Tuqa' (piety) means having sincere fear and reverence for Allah, leading us to avoid sin. 'Al-'Afaf' (chastity/abstinence) protects us from unlawful desires and keeps our actions and thoughts pure. 'Al-Ghina' (contentment/self-sufficiency) is a state of inner richness, being satisfied with what Allah has provided, which shields us from greed and envy.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'No one among you should ask for death, but if he must ask for it, he should say: O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and let me die when death is better for me. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment.'
