O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the distress of affliction, the attainment of wretchedness, the evil of decree, and the rejoicing of enemies.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min jahdil-bala'i, wa darakish-shaqa'i, wa su'il-qada'i, wa shamatatil-a'da'i.
When to Read
This powerful dua is recited by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to seek Allah's protection when facing overwhelming difficulties, injustice, or when enemies seem to have the upper hand. It's particularly relevant during times of personal hardship, societal turmoil, or when witnessing oppression. Recite it when you feel burdened, challenged, or threatened by circumstances beyond your control.
How to Read
Raise your hands in supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible, with sincere conviction and a humble heart. Utter the words with clarity and focus on their meaning. The Prophet's ﷺ practice was to repeat certain duas three times, so consider reciting this multiple times to emphasize its importance and your reliance on Allah.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates seeking refuge from four major evils: the hardship of trials ('jahdil-bala'i'), the grip of misery ('darakish-shaqa'i'), the severity of divine judgment ('su'il-qada'i'), and the gloating of adversaries ('shamatatil-a'da'i'). By invoking Allah's protection against these, we are seeking His divine intervention to alleviate our suffering, prevent our downfall, guide our destiny towards goodness, and grant us victory and dignity over those who wish us ill. It is a comprehensive plea for resilience and triumph in the face of adversity, reflecting the Prophet's ﷺ deep reliance on Allah.
