Sahih HadithAd-Du'a 7553

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ

In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

Bismillahilladhi la yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Aleem.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely, with full conviction in Allah's power to protect. Focus on the meaning of the words, recognizing that your refuge is solely with Allah. It is recommended to say it three times in the morning and three times in the evening.

Narrated by Aban bin Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him): My father (Uthman bin Affan, may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I never heard any hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this matter, except that I did not miss it. And Aban bin Uthman said: I never heard it from my father except that I did not miss it." (Aban said:) 'I heard Allah's Messenger ﷺ say: "Whoever says (in Arabic): *'Bismillahilladhi la yadhurru ma'asmihi shay'un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama'i, wa Huwas-Sami'ul-'Aleem'* (In the name of Allah, with Whose name nothing on earth or in the heavens can cause harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing) three times, he will not be afflicted by any sudden calamity until the morning, and whoever says it in the morning three times, he will not be afflicted by a sudden calamity until the morning." (Aban said:) 'Abu Bakr Al-Haddad said: "This hadith was narrated to us by Hafs bin Umar Al-Haddad, who said: 'This hadith was narrated to us by Humam, from Qatadah, from Karimah, from Uthman bin Affan, from the Prophet ﷺ.'" (This is the wording of Muslim and it is similar to the wording of Al-Bukhari).
