O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the discontinuation of Your blessings, and the change of Your protection, and the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all Your displeasure. And I seek refuge in You from the trial of the grave, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of wealth, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of poverty, and I seek refuge in You from the trial of the Dajjal. O Allah, wash my heart with the water of snow and hail, and cleanse my heart from sins as You have cleansed the white garment from filth, and keep me away from my sins as far as You have kept away the East and the West.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fuja'ati niqmatika, wa jami'i sakhatika. Wa a'udhu bika min fitnatil-qabri, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatil-ghina, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatil-faqr, wa a'udhu bika min fitnatid-Dajjal.

Focus on the meaning of each phrase, internalizing the plea for protection from spiritual and worldly trials. Believe firmly that Allah is the One who grants protection and removes hardship. It is also beneficial to reflect on the areas of your life where you experience doubt or hesitation as you recite the relevant parts of the dua.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua encompasses a wide range of protections, addressing both external trials (like the trials of the grave, wealth, poverty, and the Dajjal) and internal struggles. By seeking refuge from the 'discontinuation of Your blessings' and 'change of Your protection,' we acknowledge our utter dependence on Allah's continuous favour. The plea to have our hearts 'washed with snow and hail' and 'cleansed from sins' directly combats the stains of doubt and hesitation that can cloud our judgment and weaken our resolve. It fosters spiritual purity, asking Allah to keep us as far from sin and its consequences as the East is from the West, thereby strengthening our inner conviction and peace.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to teach his companions this dua in the same way he used to teach them a Surah from the Qur'an. He said: 'Say: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, and from the change of Your protection, and from the punishment that You have inflicted suddenly, and from all Your displeasure. Say: O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I hear, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I see, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I say, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what I think, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of my desires.' (This version is in Sunan Abi Dawud 1540, with slight variations in wording that convey the same essence. The primary version cited above is from Sahih Muslim, focusing on the specific aspects of trials and purification of the heart.) The version from Sahih Muslim, which we have detailed above, is a comprehensive supplication for safeguarding against numerous afflictions, both tangible and intangible, and for maintaining a pure and steadfast heart.
