O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, from helplessness and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from being overwhelmed by debt and overpowered by men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa dala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijali
When to Read
This is a powerful dua to recite daily, especially when you feel the weight of life's challenges pressing down. It's perfect for the morning, setting the tone for protection throughout the day, or in the evening, seeking peace before rest. Whenever you feel the onset of anxiety, sadness, or a lack of motivation, turn to this supplication.
How to Read
Raise your hands slightly, as if in sincere supplication. Utter the words with a heart that is present and a sincere intention for seeking Allah's protection. Reflect on the meanings of each phrase as you say it. Aim to make it a consistent part of your remembrance of Allah (dhikr).
Virtues & Benefits
This dua shields you from debilitating emotional states like worry (hamm) and grief (hazan), which can paralyze the spirit. It also protects against a lack of willpower and inclination to do good deeds (ajz and kasal). Furthermore, it seeks refuge from the weakness of character that leads to fear (jubn) and the reluctance to spend in good causes (bukhl). Finally, it asks for protection from the crushing burden of debt and the humiliation of being overcome by others, both of which can lead to immense distress.
