اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ خَوَاتِيمَ عَمَلِنَا خَيْرًا
O Allah, make the ends of our deeds the best of them.
Allahumma ij'al khawātīma 'amalinā khayran
When to Read
This is a profound supplication that can be recited at any time, especially when reflecting on our lives and our ultimate return to Allah. It's particularly poignant during times of introspection, at the end of the day, or when facing significant life events. We ask Allah to ensure our final actions and our very end are pleasing to Him, regardless of our outward circumstances.
How to Read
Raise your hands in supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible, with sincerity and a hopeful heart. Utter the words with conviction, reflecting on their meaning: that our ultimate success is not just in our initial good deeds, but in our final moments and the state in which we meet our Lord. Repeat it regularly, making it a habit.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking a good ending (Husnul Khātimah) is one of the most crucial requests a believer can make. The Prophet ﷺ himself, though assured of Paradise, constantly turned to Allah for this. This dua encapsulates that plea, asking that our final moments be a testament to our faith, that we die in a state of obedience and remembrance of Allah, and that our last deeds are our best. It is a recognition that our end is ultimately in Allah's hands, and a humble request for His mercy and guidance until the very last breath.

Reported by Abdullah bin Busr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'The best of people are those who live long and do good deeds.' A man asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, what are the best of deeds?' He said: 'Whoever dies while his tongue is moist with the remembrance of Allah.' Then a man asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the best of the end of deeds?' He said: 'Whoever dies while his tongue is moist with the remembrance of Allah.' [This hadith is narrated in Sunan At-Tirmidhi (3371) and Sunan Ibn Majah (3844), and graded Hasan by scholars]. The specific phrase 'Allahumma ij'al khawātīma 'amalinā khayran' (O Allah, make the ends of our deeds the best of them) is also found in some collections attributed to the supplications of the Prophet ﷺ, reflecting this core concern for a righteous end.
