Prophetic Duas
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 1/391

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective, and Your decision concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any one of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that is with You, to make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness, and the reliever of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abdika, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka. As'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitifika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is particularly potent when you feel the weight of the world pressing down on you. Whenever sadness or worry clouds your mind and heart, recite this dua. It's a way of turning to Allah with complete reliance, acknowledging His absolute power and wisdom, and asking Him to bring solace through His magnificent Book.

How to Read

Begin by acknowledging your humble position as a servant of Allah. Recite with sincerity and a clear intention, focusing on the meaning of each word. Raise your hands if you are able, as is customary for supplication. Utter the words with conviction, believing that Allah will respond and bring comfort through the Qur'an, His divine revelation.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates profound reliance on Allah (Tawakkul). By invoking His names and acknowledging His sovereignty, you strengthen your connection with the Creator. The primary benefit is the transformation of the heart: the Qur'an, a source of guidance and mercy, becomes the means to overcome sorrow, illuminate the chest, and dispel worries. It's a comprehensive remedy for emotional distress, seeking divine intervention to restore peace.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'There is no servant who is afflicted with sadness or grief and says: 'Unless Allah removes his sadness and grief, and replaces it with joy.' It was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we not learn these words?' He said: 'Yes, it is necessary for everyone who hears them after you to learn them.' (Narrated by Ahmad (1/391) and others.)
