O Allah, I seek refuge with You from worry and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, and from being heavily in debt and from being overpowered by (other) men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-Hazan, wal-'ajzi wal-kasal, wal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa dala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal.

For example, when saying 'from incapacity and laziness,' think about areas where you struggle to act or persevere, and ask Allah to empower you.

This powerful prophetic supplication offers refuge from a wide range of human vulnerabilities that hinder resilience and patience during hardship. By seeking protection from 'worry and grief' (al-hamm wal-hazan), you are asking Allah for tranquility and inner peace. Seeking refuge from 'incapacity and laziness' (al-'ajz wal-kasal) helps cultivate determination and productivity, essential for navigating difficulties. Asking for protection from 'cowardice and miserliness' (al-jubn wal-bukhl) fosters courage and generosity, virtues that strengthen one's character. Finally, seeking refuge from being 'heavily in debt and overpowered by men' addresses common external pressures, asking Allah for financial ease and protection from oppression. Regularly reciting this dua cultivates a deep sense of reliance on Allah, providing strength, peace, and resilience in the face of all trials, as Allah is the ultimate source of all aid and protection.
