Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses a profound request for comprehensive understanding and clarity. 'Teach me the Book' refers to the Quran, seeking knowledge of its recitation, memorization, and meaning. 'And the reckoning' can refer to the ability to account for oneself and one's deeds, or it can imply a sharp intellect for worldly calculations and knowledge. 'Make me understand the religion' asks for deep Fiqh (understanding) of Islam, enabling one to practice and explain it correctly. Finally, 'Teach me the interpretation' (at-ta'weel) seeks the ability to understand the deeper meanings and wisdom behind the Quran and the Sunnah. The benefits are immense: enhanced intellect, profound religious understanding, clarity of thought, and the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.

Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) passed by the companions and he was walking among them, and he said: "O people, the people before you were destroyed because when a noble person committed theft among them, they used to let him go, and when a weak person committed theft among them, they used to inflict the prescribed punishment on him. By Allah, if Muhammad's daughter Fatimah committed theft, I would cut off her hand." Then he said: "O people, Allah has commanded me to be distant from falsehood, not to oppress, and to be equitable. So, perfect your faith and your actions. And ask Allah concerning your worldly affairs." Then he taught them this dua: اللَّهُمَّ عَلِّمْنِي الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِسَابَ، وَفَقِّهْنِي فِي الدِّينِ، وَعَلِّمْنِي التَّأْوِيلَ. (O Allah, teach me the Book and the reckoning, and make me understand the religion, and teach me the interpretation.)
