Prophetic Duas
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 3597

O Allah, I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know. I ask You for the good of what You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know.

Allahumma inni as'aluka qalbansaleeman, wa lisaanansadiqan, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lam, wa as'aluka min khairi ma ta'lam, wa astaghfiruka mimma ta'lam.

When to Read

This is a powerful dua for anyone struggling with feelings of envy, resentment, or ill will towards others, especially fellow Muslims. It's particularly beneficial to recite this upon waking, before significant interactions, or whenever you feel these negative emotions surfacing. Making it a part of your regular supplications can foster a more peaceful and loving heart.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, focusing on the meaning of each phrase. Imagine your heart being cleansed and purified as you ask Allah for a 'qalb saleem' (a sound, pure heart). Raise your hands in supplication as you normally would, and then place them on your chest over your heart after finishing the dua, a subtle reminder to the heart of its plea. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible.

Virtues & Benefits

A heart free from envy and ill will is a cornerstone of Islamic brotherhood (ukhuwwah). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ emphasized its importance, stating: 'Do not hate one another, do not envy one another, do not betray one another, and be O slaves of Allah brothers.' (Sahih al-Bukhari 6065). This dua directly combats the destructive forces of envy and resentment, leading to inner peace, stronger relationships within the community, and Allah's pleasure. A pure heart is also a prerequisite for sincerity in worship and receiving Allah's help.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah bin Busr: The Prophet ﷺ would supplicate: 'O Allah, I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know. I ask You for the good of what You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know.' [This hadith is Hasan based on other chains of narration that support it, though the solitary narration might be considered weak by some. However, the meaning and practice are widely accepted as sunnah due to its essence.]
