Prophetic Duas
Hasan HadithSunan An-Nasa'i 1304

O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all matters, and I ask You for the resolve of right guidance. I ask You to enable me to be grateful for Your favors and to worship You well. I ask You for a truthful tongue and a sound heart. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I ask You for the good of what You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-thabata fil-amr, wa as'aluka 'azeemata ar-rushd, wa as'aluka shukra ni'matik, wa husna 'ibadatik, wa as'aluka lisaanan sadaqan, wa qalban saleeman, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lam, wa as'aluka min khairi ma ta'lam, wa astaghfiruka mimma ta'lam.

When to Read

This powerful dua is perfect for moments when you feel overwhelmed by life's challenges, when faced with difficult decisions, or when you simply need an internal boost of strength and conviction. Recite it when you feel your resolve wavering, or when you are embarking on a path that requires patience and reliance on Allah. It's also a great dua to make regularly to seek Allah's continuous guidance and protection.

How to Read

Begin by understanding the depth of each request. Raise your hands in supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible. Utter the words with sincerity, reflecting on their meaning and connecting your heart to Allah. Imagine yourself asking your Lord directly, with humility and hope. Ensure you are in a state of Wudu if you are able. Believe in Allah's ability to answer your prayer.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates comprehensive requests for a believer navigating life. 'Steadfastness in all matters' (ath-thabat fil-amr) means remaining firm on the truth and consistent in good deeds, even when tested. 'Resolve of right guidance' ('azeemata ar-rushd) is the determination to follow the path Allah loves. Asking for 'gratitude for Your favors' (shukra ni'matik) and 'to worship You well' (husna 'ibadatik) are keys to spiritual growth and contentment. The request for a 'truthful tongue' (lisaanan sadaqan) and a 'sound heart' (qalban saleeman) highlights the importance of inner and outer integrity. Finally, seeking refuge from the evil of what Allah knows and asking for the good acknowledges His perfect knowledge and His absolute power to grant it. This comprehensive supplication, by seeking both protection from harm and attainment of good, helps a believer face trials with courage and faith.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Prophet ﷺ used to supplicate: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.' (Sunan An-Nasa'i 1304). Another related narration from Sunan At-Tirmidhi 3493 has a similar essence: 'Abdullah reported that the Prophet ﷺ used to say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka al-huda wa-t-tuqa wa-l-'afafa wa-l-ghina.' Translation: 'O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and self-sufficiency.' While this specific dua is for steadfastness, the underlying principle of seeking Allah's help in all aspects of life, especially during hardship, is consistent.
