Prophet's ﷺ Dua for Strength of Faith and Steadfastness

Prophetic Duas
Sahih HadithSunan An-Nasa'i 1304

O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all affairs, and determination in righteousness. I ask You to grant me the ability to be thankful for Your blessings and to worship You in the best manner. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the good You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil You know. I ask Your forgiveness for what You know. Indeed, You are the Knower of the unseen.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-thabata fil-amri, wal-'azeemata 'alar-rushdi, wa as'aluka shukra ni'matik, wa husna 'ibadatik, wa as'aluka qalban saleeman, wa lisaanan saadiqan, wa as'aluka min khairi ma ta'lam, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lam, wa astaghfiruka lima ta'lam, innaka anta 'allamul-ghuyoob.

When to Read

This is a profound dua for anyone seeking inner strength and consistency in their deen. Recite it when you feel your resolve weakening, when facing trials that test your faith, or simply as a regular practice to reinforce your commitment to Allah. It's particularly beneficial during times of introspection, like the last ten nights of Ramadan, or after completing acts of worship to ask for acceptance and continued guidance.

How to Read

Raise your hands in supplication as you would when making any other dua. Begin by praising Allah and sending salutations upon the Prophet ﷺ. Utter these words with sincerity, conviction, and a humble heart, focusing on the meaning of each request. Believe that Allah has the power to grant what you ask and seek His pleasure. Make this a habit, perhaps after your obligatory prayers.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses asking Allah for the ability to remain firm (thabat) in following His commands and the Prophet's ﷺ Sunnah, especially when faced with temptations or doubts. It also requests the strength of will ('azimah) to actively pursue what is right and good. The dua beautifully balances seeking divine help with personal responsibility, asking for the capacity to be grateful for blessings and to worship Him in a way that is pleasing to Him. It highlights the importance of a pure heart and a truthful tongue, both essential for a strong connection with Allah. By asking for the 'good You know' and seeking refuge from the 'evil You know', we acknowledge Allah's perfect knowledge and sovereignty over all matters, entrusting our affairs to Him.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say: 'Allahumma inni as'alukal-thabata fil-amri, wal-'azeemata 'alar-rushdi, wa as'aluka shukra ni'matik, wa husna 'ibadatik, wa as'aluka qalban saleeman, wa lisaanan saadiqan, wa as'aluka min khairi ma ta'lam, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lam, wa astaghfiruka lima ta'lam, innaka anta 'allamul-ghuyoob.' (O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all affairs, and determination in righteousness. I ask You to grant me the ability to be thankful for Your blessings and to worship You in the best manner. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the good You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil You know. I ask Your forgiveness for what You know. Indeed, You are the Knower of the unseen.) — Sunan An-Nasa'i 1304. It is narrated by Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that this was one of the supplications the Prophet ﷺ used to teach them.
