اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ رِضَاكَ وَالْجَنَّةَ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ وَالنَّارِ

O Allah, I ask for Your pleasure and Paradise, and I seek refuge in You from Your anger and the Fire.

Allahumma inni as'aluka ridak wal-jannah, wa a'udhu bika min sakhatik wan-nar

When to Read

This powerful dua is excellent to recite at any time, but especially after the obligatory prayers (Salah) or during the quiet hours of the night when one is reflecting and seeking closeness to Allah. It's a comprehensive request, encompassing the ultimate goals for a believer: pleasing the Creator and attaining His Paradise, while seeking protection from His displeasure and the Hellfire.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and a sincere heart, truly feeling the weight of the request. Raise your hands as you would in supplication. Visualize seeking Allah's pleasure and yearning for His Garden. Utter the words clearly and with conviction, knowing that Allah hears every supplication. It is recommended to say it after finishing your prayers, before the Tasleem (salutations) or immediately after, as supplication after prayer is highly regarded.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the core of a believer's aspiration. Seeking Allah's pleasure (Rida) is the highest aspiration, as it signifies attaining His love and contentment, which leads to the ultimate reward: Paradise (Jannah). Conversely, seeking refuge from His anger (Sakhat) and the Hellfire (Nar) is a vital act of seeking protection from the greatest of losses. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this comprehensive supplication, highlighting its importance in focusing our desires on what truly matters in this life and the next. This dua encourages a life lived in pursuit of divine approval and avoidance of what displeases Allah.

It was narrated from Abdullah bin Mas'ud that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka ridak wal-jannah, wa a'udhu bika min sakhatik wan-nar.' (O Allah, I ask for Your pleasure and Paradise, and I seek refuge in You from Your anger and the Fire.) He would say it when making supplication.
