Prophetic Duas
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2721

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى

O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and richness/contentment.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina

When to Read

This comprehensive dua is perfect for reciting during the day or night, especially when reflecting on life's circumstances. It's particularly relevant when seeking balance, whether one is facing financial hardship or blessed with abundance. Making it a habit after Salah or during personal supplication can foster a sense of equilibrium and reliance on Allah.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and deep contemplation of its meaning. Focus on the request for Allah's guidance to navigate life's path correctly, His protection to keep you pious, His granting of chastity to maintain your dignity and honor, and His provision of true richness, which is contentment (ghina) with what He has bestowed. Raise your hands as you would during any supplication and face the Qiblah if possible.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates a holistic request for well-being. 'Al-huda' (guidance) encompasses all forms of right direction. 'At-tuqa' (piety) is the consciousness of Allah that guards against sins. 'Al-'afaf' (chastity) pertains to maintaining one's honor and avoiding that which is unlawful or improper, both in matters of wealth and other aspects of life. 'Al-ghina' is not merely wealth, but more importantly, contentment and self-sufficiency, which protects one from the greed and envy often associated with both extreme poverty and excessive wealth. The Prophet ﷺ prayed for these very things, showing us the importance of seeking balance and inner peace from our Creator, rather than solely focusing on external circumstances.
