أُعِيذُكَ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ

I seek protection for you with the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every venomous creature, and from every evil eye.

U'eezuka bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammatih, wa min kulli 'aynin lammah

When to Read

This dua is recited by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for his grandchildren, Hassan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them). It's a beautiful supplication to recite over your newborn, especially during the early days when they are adjusting to life outside the womb and experiencing their first sleep cycles. You can recite it whenever you hold your baby, before they sleep, or if they seem restless.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus on Allah's power to protect. Place your hand gently on your baby's head or body as you recite. It is recommended to blow gently onto the baby after reciting, similar to how the Prophet ﷺ did. You can also cover the entirety of the newborn's body with your hands while reciting. Repeat it three times for added emphasis, as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua offers immense protection for the newborn from physical and spiritual harm. It invokes Allah's perfect words, signifying the comprehensive nature of His protection. By reciting this, you are actively seeking refuge for your child in the Almighty, acknowledging that true safety comes only from Him. It helps in creating a peaceful environment for the baby, aiding their transition and promoting restful sleep.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them): The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge in Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn, saying: 'I seek protection for you two with the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every animal, and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'Abraham (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge in Allah with these same words for Ishmael and Isaac (peace be upon them).'

Dua for a Newborn's Healthy Eyesight and Vision

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from the helplessness of old age. And I seek refuge in You from the trials of the grave, and the punishment of the grave, and the trials of the Fire, and the punishment of the Fire, and the evil of the trials of wealth, and the evil of the trials of poverty, and the evil of the trials of the False Messiah (Dajjal). O Allah, cleanse my heart with the water of snow and hail, and purify me from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt, and keep me far from my sins as You have kept far the East and the West. O Allah, forgive me my mistake, and my ignorance, and my extravagance in my affairs, and whatever You know better of me. O Allah, forgive me my jesting and my seriousness, my mistake and my deliberate (sin), and all of that is with me. O Allah, forgive me what I have sent forth and what I have delayed, and what I have concealed and what I have done openly, and whatever You know better of me. You are the One Who sends forth and You are the One Who delays; there is none worthy of worship but You.
