In the name of Allah. O Allah, make him pious and pure, and all my offspring. Make him dutiful to his parents, and all my offspring. Make him strong in Your religion, and thank him [for his good deeds] for me, and grant him well-being, and forgive me and my offspring.

Bismillahi, Allahumma-j'alhu taqiyyan zakiyyan, wa sa'ira dhurriyyati, waj'alhu bārran biwālidayhi, wa sa'ira dhurriyyati, waj'alhu qawiyyan fī dīnika, washkurhu lī, wa 'āfihī wa-'fu 'annī wa 'an dhurriyyati.

When to Read

This is a powerful supplication that can be recited from the moment a child is born. As parents, we hope for our children to grow up with a strong connection to Allah, embodying the best of character and adhering to the path of Islam. This dua is particularly relevant as we witness our children taking their first independent steps, both literally and metaphorically, as they begin to explore the world and form their own understanding of faith.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and deep reflection, focusing on each word and its meaning. Direct your supplication to Allah, asking Him to bestow these qualities upon your child and your descendants. Raising your hands in supplication is a Sunnah, but it's the sincerity of the heart that truly matters. You can make this dua anytime, but especially during times of personal reflection or when you feel particularly inspired to pray for your child's well-being.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua encapsulates a parent's deepest hopes for their child: a life of piety, purity, righteousness, strength in faith, and well-being. It's a way for us to actively seek Allah's guidance and blessing for our children, ensuring they are raised on the straight path. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this beautiful prayer, highlighting the importance of seeking Allah's help in raising righteous offspring who will be a source of joy and continued reward for us.

Source & Authentication

Al-Tirmidhi narrated: Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'A child is a leader for the seven in the Paradise, and a servant for the seven in the Fire.' Then he mentioned some of the people's saying: 'This is in regard to the child whom Allah has destined to enter Paradise.' Then he taught them to say: 'Bismillahi, Allahumma-j'alhu taqiyyan zakiyyan, wa sa'ira dhurriyyati, waj'alhu bārran biwālidayhi, wa sa'ira dhurriyyati, waj'alhu qawiyyan fī dīnika, washkurhu lī, wa 'āfihī wa-'fu 'annī wa 'an dhurriyyati.' (O Allah, make him pious and pure, and all my offspring. Make him dutiful to his parents, and all my offspring. Make him strong in Your religion, and thank him [for his good deeds] for me, and grant him well-being, and forgive me and my offspring.) *(Note: The first part of the hadith about the child being a leader/servant in Paradise/Fire relates to the concept of children being a test and a blessing, and this dua is specifically taught as a means of seeking protection and righteousness for them.)*
