اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ زَوَالِ نِعْمَتِكَ، وَتَحَوُّلِ عَافِيَتِكَ، وَفُجَاءَةِ نِقْمَتِكَ، وَجَمِيعِ سَخَطِكَ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الْهَمِّ وَالْحَزَنِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَلَبَةِ الدَّيْنِ وَقَهْرِ الرِّجَالِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ الْعَجْزِ وَالْكَسَلِ، وَالْجُبْنِ وَالْبُخْلِ، وَالْهَرَمِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْقَبْرِ، وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ، وَفِتْنَةِ النَّارِ، وَعَذَابِ النَّارِ، وَشَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْغِنَى، وَشَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْفَقْرِ، وَشَرِّ فِتْنَةِ الْمَسِيحِ الدَّجَّالِ، اللَّهُمَّ اغْسِلْ قَلْبِي بِمَاءِ الثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ، وَنَقِّنِي مِنْ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنْ الدَّنَسِ، وَبَاعِدْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ خَطَايَا كَمَا بَاعَدْتَ بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ، اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي خَطِيئَتِي، وَجَهْلِي، وَإِسْرَافِي فِي أَمْرِي، وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي، اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي هَزْلِي وَجِدِّي، وَخَطَئِي وَعَمْدِي، وَكُلُّ ذَلِكَ عِنْدِي، اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي مَا قَدَّمْتُ، وَمَا أَخَّرْتُ، وَمَا أَسْرَرْتُ، وَمَا أَعْلَنْتُ، وَمَا أَنْتَ أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنِّي، أَنْتَ الْمُقَدِّمُ، وَأَنْتَ الْمُؤَخِّرُ، لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from the helplessness of old age. And I seek refuge in You from the trials of the grave, and the punishment of the grave, and the trials of the Fire, and the punishment of the Fire, and the evil of the trials of wealth, and the evil of the trials of poverty, and the evil of the trials of the False Messiah (Dajjal). O Allah, cleanse my heart with the water of snow and hail, and purify me from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt, and keep me far from my sins as You have kept far the East and the West. O Allah, forgive me my mistake, and my ignorance, and my extravagance in my affairs, and whatever You know better of me. O Allah, forgive me my jesting and my seriousness, my mistake and my deliberate (sin), and all of that is with me. O Allah, forgive me what I have sent forth and what I have delayed, and what I have concealed and what I have done openly, and whatever You know better of me. You are the One Who sends forth and You are the One Who delays; there is none worthy of worship but You.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa faja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazan, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasal, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasal, wal-jubni wal-bukhl, wal-harami. Allahumma ighfir lī khaṭī'atī, wa jahli, wa isrāfī fī amrī, wa mā anta a'lamu bihi minnī. Allahumma ighfir lī hazlī wa jiddī, wa khaṭa'ī wa 'amdī, wa kullu dhālika 'indī. Allahumma ighfir lī mā qaddamt, wa mā akhkhart, wa mā asrartu, wa mā a'lantu, wa mā anta a'lamu bihi minnī. Antal-Muqaddimu, wa Antal-Mu'akhkhir, lā ilāha illā Anta.
When to Read
This comprehensive dua is excellent to recite upon the birth of a child, or at any time you wish to seek Allah's protection for the newborn, specifically including protection and blessings for their eyesight and overall well-being. You can recite it while holding the baby or simply make the intention for them.
How to Read
Make sincere intention for the well-being of the newborn. Recite with focus and feeling, imagining Allah's mercy encompassing the child. It is recommended to raise your hands slightly while making dua, as was the practice of the Prophet ﷺ. After reciting, you can gently blow on the baby, which is a practice associated with seeking protection, as seen in the duas for protection from the evil eye and other harms.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication is a powerful plea for Allah's comprehensive protection. While it doesn't specifically mention eyesight, the general wording 'cessation of Your blessings,' 'change of Your protection,' and 'all of Your displeasure' covers all aspects of well-being. By seeking refuge in Allah from all forms of evil and hardship, we are implicitly asking for the preservation of all faculties, including sight. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua as a means of seeking broad protection from Allah against various worldly and otherworldly afflictions. Reciting it for a newborn is an act of entrusting their future and development to Allah's care.

Narrated Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to teach his companions to say during istikhara (prayer for guidance) the whole supplication: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka khayraha wa khayra ma jabaltaha 'alayhi, wa a'udhu bika min sharriha wa sharri ma jabaltaha 'alayhi.' (O Allah, I ask of You its goodness and the goodness of what You have destined for it, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of what You have destined for it.) And the supplication for seeking refuge: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa faja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik.
