In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Allah, make him blessed and grant us his righteousness. My Lord, grant me from Yourself [offspring] a good lineage. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.
Bismillāhir-Raḥmānir-Raḥīm. Allāhummaj'alhu mubārakā wārzuqnā birrah. Rabbi hab lī mil-ladunka dhurriyyatan ṭayyibatan innaka Samī'ud-Du'ā.
When to Read
This dua can be recited by the mother, father, or any guardian when a baby is born and dedicated. It is especially relevant when the mother begins breastfeeding, asking Allah to bless the child and the milk, and to grant the child good character and obedience to parents. The Quranic verse is a general supplication for righteous offspring, beautiful to recite at any time, particularly when seeking blessings in family and children.
How to Read
Recite with sincerity and belief in Allah's power to grant blessings. Place your right hand gently on the baby's head or your chest (if the baby is nursing) while reciting. Focus your intention on seeking Allah's blessing for the milk, the baby's health, and the mother's well-being during breastfeeding. The Quranic verse can be recited regularly as a general prayer for a righteous family.
Virtues & Benefits
Seeking Allah's blessing upon the child and the nourishment ensures that the milk is pure, beneficial, and a source of strength and health for the baby. It also asks for the child to be a source of comfort and obedience to the parents, a righteous offspring (dhurriyyatan tayyibah). This connects the act of breastfeeding with spiritual well-being for both mother and child, acknowledging that all blessings come from Allah.

Narrated Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him): I had a baby boy and I took him to the Prophet (peace be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) named him Ibrahim and rubbed him with a date and invoked Allah's blessings for him. He said, 'He is Abu Musa's son, so get him a good name and teach him the Quran and train him to be good.' I have a son named Al-Hasan, and Al-Husain, and Al-Muhallil, and I went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) with them, and he called them by their names and supplicated for them. He said, 'O Allah, bless him (i.e., Al-Hasan) and bless his offspring.' He said this three times. He said, 'O Allah, bless him (i.e., Al-Husain) and bless his offspring.' He said this three times. (The narrator also mentioned the name of Al-Muhallil and said that the Prophet (peace be upon him) called him by his name and invoked Allah's blessings for him.) In another narration: When a child was born, the Prophet (peace be upon him) would supplicate for him and ask Allah to bless him. When Ibrahim was born, he said: 'He is blessed.' And he named him Ibrahim. *(Note: The specific hadith for "Allāhummaj'alhu mubārakā wārzuqnā birrah" is often attributed to general supplications made by the Prophet ﷺ upon seeing a newborn or for blessings in general, and its essence is captured in the prayer for a blessed and righteous child. The provided translation is a common way this sentiment is expressed.)*
