I seek refuge for him/her in the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every beast, and from every envious eye.
U'eezuhu bikalimatillahi-t-tammati, min kulli shaytanin wa hammatin, wa min kulli 'aynin lammah
When to Read
This dua is traditionally recited by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for his grandsons, Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them), when seeking Allah's protection for them. It is highly recommended to recite this dua for a newborn baby soon after birth, and periodically thereafter, especially when concerned about their health or exposure to illness. You can whisper it gently over the baby.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, believing in Allah's power to protect. You can place your hand gently on the baby's head or body while reciting. It is also beneficial to make general dua for the child's well-being and for Allah to grant them a strong body and immunity. Ensure you are in a state of purity if possible, though the primary focus is the sincerity of the intention.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encompasses seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words, which are inherently protective. It seeks protection from various harms: 'shaytan' (devils, evil influences), 'hammah' (harmful creatures or things that can cause illness), and 'ayn lammah' (the evil eye or any harm caused by envy and ill will). By reciting this, we are actively invoking Allah's divine shield over our little ones, asking Him to fortify their bodies and keep them safe from sickness and harm, allowing them to grow healthy and strong in His care.

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek protection for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them) by saying: 'U'eezukumā bikalimātillāhit-tām-mati min kulli shaitānin wa hāmmah, wa min kulli 'ainin lāmmah.' (I seek refuge for you both in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every poisonous creature and from every evil eye). Then he would say: 'Ibrahim (Abraham) used to seek protection for his offspring, saying: 'A'ūdhu bikalimātillāhit-tām-māti min kulli shaitānin wa hāmmah, wa min kulli 'ainin lāmmah.' (I seek refuge in Allah's perfect words from every devil and every beast and from every evil eye).
