It's a beautiful way for parents and guardians to invoke blessings upon the child as they begin their journey of life, seeking Allah's protection and provision for them from the very beginning.

How to Read

Gently place your hand on the baby's head or chest, facing the direction of the Qiblah if possible. Recite the dua with sincerity and a calm heart. It's beneficial to have a pure intention of seeking Allah's protection and blessings for the infant.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates comprehensive well-wishes for a child: seeking Allah's forgiveness, mercy, physical health (well-being), and sustenance. It's a powerful invocation that reflects the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ care for children and his practice of making du'a for them. By making this dua, we are following the Sunnah and entrusting the newborn to Allah's care during their vulnerable state of sleep, asking for His blessings to encompass their entire life.

Dua for a Newborn's Healthy Eyesight and Vision

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the cessation of Your blessings, the change of Your protection, the suddenness of Your vengeance, and all of Your displeasure. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from the burden of debt and the overpowering of men. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, and from the helplessness of old age. And I seek refuge in You from the trials of the grave, and the punishment of the grave, and the trials of the Fire, and the punishment of the Fire, and the evil of the trials of wealth, and the evil of the trials of poverty, and the evil of the trials of the False Messiah (Dajjal). O Allah, cleanse my heart with the water of snow and hail, and purify me from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt, and keep me far from my sins as You have kept far the East and the West. O Allah, forgive me my mistake, and my ignorance, and my extravagance in my affairs, and whatever You know better of me. O Allah, forgive me my jesting and my seriousness, my mistake and my deliberate (sin), and all of that is with me. O Allah, forgive me what I have sent forth and what I have delayed, and what I have concealed and what I have done openly, and whatever You know better of me. You are the One Who sends forth and You are the One Who delays; there is none worthy of worship but You.
