Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 3874

In the name of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the accursed Shaytan, and from the evil of [the effects of] poison and the evil eye. O Allah, make him pious and pure. My Lord, make him blessed upon him, and make him healthy with well-being.

Bismillahi, Allahumma a'udhu bika minash-shaytanir-rajim wa shar-ris-simmi wal-basar. Allahumma ij'alhu taqiyan zakiyan, Rabbi ij'alhu mubarak-an 'alayhi, waj'alhu yasihhu fi 'afiyah.

Recite this dua with sincerity and a pure intention. Place your hand gently on the baby's head or body while reciting. You can repeat it multiple times, focusing your heart on Allah's power to protect and nurture the child. Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses seeking Allah's refuge from unseen evils like the Shaytan and the evil eye, which are believed to affect health and well-being. It also directly asks for piety, purity, and blessedness, encompassing spiritual growth. Finally, it asks for physical health ('afiyah), which is essential for proper weight gain and overall development. The act of making dua itself is a means of connection with Allah and acknowledges His ultimate control over all matters, including a child's health.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet ﷺ used to seek refuge for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn, saying: 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every poisonous thing and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'Your son has been afflicted by me (i.e., I have made him sick by reciting this for him).' When Ibn 'Abbas began to visit them, he found them in a bad state. Ibn 'Abbas said: 'Where are the children?' It was said: 'Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn were taken to the doctors.' Ibn 'Abbas said: 'What is the use of doctors?' Then he mentioned the Hadith, and narrated it from the Prophet ﷺ: 'Bismillahi, Allahumma a'udhu bika minash-shaytanir-rajim wa shar-ris-simmi wal-basar. Allahumma ij'alhu taqiyan zakiyan, Rabbi ij'alhu mubarak-an 'alayhi, waj'alhu yasihhu fi 'afiyah.' (Translation of the last part of the Hadith text: 'O Allah, make him pious and pure. My Lord, make him blessed upon him, and make him healthy with well-being.')
