I seek protection for you with the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every evil eye.
U'idhu-ka bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammatin, wa min kulli 'aynin lammatin
When to Read
This dua is recited for a newborn baby, especially when you first notice their movements, awareness, or just after birth. It's a beautiful way to entrust the child to Allah's protection as they begin their journey in this world, sensitive and vulnerable.
How to Read
Gently blow on the child or place your hand on them while reciting. The act is about seeking Allah's protection through His words, so sincerity and a present heart are key. Repeat it as often as you feel necessary, especially when the baby seems unsettled or you wish to invoke Allah's blessings upon them.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication offers a powerful means of safeguarding the newborn from unseen harms, such as the evil eye ('ayn) and the whispers of Shaytan. It acknowledges Allah as the ultimate Protector, reinforcing the connection between the child and their Creator from the very beginning. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself used this dua for his grandchildren Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them), showing its profound importance and efficacy.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek protection for Hasan and Husayn (saying): أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ 'I seek protection for you both with the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every poisonous creature, and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'Your father (Abraham) used to seek protection for Ishmael and Isaac with this same invocation.' Sahih al-Bukhari 3308
