I seek refuge for you with the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every beast, and from every evil eye. O Allah, make him blessed and guide him to Your straight path.
U'ee-dhuka bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammah, wa min kulli 'aynin lammah. Allahumma-j'alhu mubarakan 'alayhi, wahdihi ila siratikal-mustaqeem.
When to Read
This dua is particularly potent when recited for a newborn, either by the parents or other close family members. It can be recited daily, especially after the Adhan is called in the house, or upon hearing it. It's also beneficial to recite it when the baby is facing any discomfort or potential harm, seeking Allah's protection and blessing. The prayer for guidance towards the straight path is a continuous supplication for the child's entire life.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, directing your supplication towards Allah. It is recommended to blow gently onto the child after reciting, similar to the practice of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when reciting protective duas. Focus on the meaning of the words, seeking Allah's perfect protection and guidance for the little one. The intention is to imbue the child with barakah (blessing) and a natural inclination towards the sounds and messages that connect us to our Creator.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua, taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his grandson Al-Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) for protection, serves as a spiritual shield for the newborn. By seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words, we are invoking the strongest protection against unseen evils like Shaytan and the evil eye. The latter part of the dua directly asks Allah to bless the child and guide them to the straight path, fostering an innate love and recognition for the Adhan and the Quran from a tender age. This practice lays a foundation for a life deeply connected to Islamic principles and worship.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) used to seek refuge for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain saying: "U'ee-dhuka bikalimatillahit-tammati min kulli shaytanin wa hammah, wa min kulli 'aynin lammah." (I seek refuge for you with the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every beast, and from every evil eye.) Then he would say: "Your father (Abraham) used to seek refuge with it for Ishmael and Isaac." Sahih al-Bukhari 3308
