اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ مُبَارَكًا، وَاهْدِهِ، وَتَقَبَّلْهُ مِنِّي بِقَبُولٍ حَسَنٍ
O Allah, make him/her blessed, guide him/her, and accept him/her from me with good acceptance.
Allahumma ij'alhu mubarakhan, wahdihi, wataqabbalhu minni biqabulin hasanin
When to Read
This dua is particularly relevant when a child is born or dedicated. It's a beautiful supplication to make at the naming ceremony (Aqiqah) or simply when holding your newborn, asking Allah to bless them and make them a source of joy and righteousness for the family.
How to Read
Ideally, this dua should be recited with sincerity and focus while holding the newborn, perhaps after the Adhan (call to prayer) has been recited in their ear. Place your right hand on the child's forehead or chest as you make the supplication. It's also wonderful to repeat it regularly throughout the child's upbringing.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua embodies the deep desire of a parent for their child's well-being and righteousness. By asking Allah to make the child 'blessed' (mubarak), we are seeking divine favor and growth in all aspects of their life. Asking for guidance ('wahdihi') is crucial, as true success lies in following Allah's path. The phrase 'accept him/her from me with good acceptance' ('wataqabbalhu minni biqabulin hasanin') reflects the hope that the child will be a source of pride and good deeds for the parents in this life and the next, and that Allah accepts this child as a righteous offspring.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated that Ibn 'Abbas said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'The newborn is bound to the 'Aqiqah. So, spill blood for him on the second day after his birth, and remove the harm from him [i.e., shave his head].'" Then he mentioned a dua: 'Allahumma ij'alhu mubarakhan, wahdihi, wataqabbalhu minni biqabulin hasanin' (O Allah, make him blessed, guide him, and accept him from me with good acceptance). (Sunan Ibn Majah 1952). While the full hadith discusses the 'Aqiqah, the dua itself is a beautiful supplication for the child's blessings and acceptance, which can be made at any time.
