O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is forever executed. Your justice over me is assured. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone in Your creation, or You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my sadness, and a reliever of my worries.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to seek refuge with Allah from the evil (of whatever He created) saying: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min-ash-sharriha' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from its evil). He would repeat this three times. And he would seek refuge saying: 'Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirati...' (O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in this world and the Hereafter...). He would repeat this three times. And he would seek refuge saying: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'afwaka wal-'afiyah...' (O Allah, I ask You for Your pardon and well-being...). He would repeat this three times. And he would seek refuge saying: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka bu'raka wa himmaka wa 'adhaba-n-nari wa fitnat-il-yahya wal-ma'ati...' (O Allah, I ask You for Your gladness and Your command, and the punishment of the Fire, and the trials of life and death...). He would repeat this three times. And he would seek refuge saying: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka dhikraka wa shukraka wa husna 'ibadatik...' (O Allah, I ask You for remembrance of You, and gratitude to You, and good worship of You...). He would repeat this three times. And the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsin la tashba', wa min da'watin la yustajabu laha' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, and from a heart that does not fear (Allah), and from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered). And he would seek refuge with Allah from the Dajjal. He would say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabil-qabri' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the grave). He would repeat this three times. And he would say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adhabil-Nar wa 'adhabil-qabri wa fitnat-id-dajjal...' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of the Fire, and the punishment of the grave, and the trial of the Dajjal...). He would repeat this three times. Then he said: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka al-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina' (O Allah, I ask You for guidance, and piety, and chastity, and self-sufficiency). He would repeat this three times. And he said: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka al-qaswa fi-l-amri wal-'azimah 'ala-r-rushdi, wa as'aluka shukra ni'matik wa husna 'ibadatik, wa as'aluka qalbana saliman wa lisana sadigan, wa as'aluka min khairi ma ta'lamu wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lamu wa astaghfiruka lima ta'lamu innaka anta 'allam-ul-ghuyub.' (O Allah, I ask You for determination in (all) matters and constancy in right guidance, and I ask You for gratitude for Your blessings and good worship of You, and I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue, and I ask You for the best of what You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I ask Your forgiveness for what You know. Verily, You are the Knower of the unseen). And the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'None of my Ummah asks Me with this supplication but that I shall accept it for him, nor does he ask Me for anything but that I shall give it to him, except that he asks Me for the forgiveness of his sins.' The narrator said: 'I think he said: 'Unless he asks Me for the forgiveness of his sins.' Or he said: 'Unless he asks Me for the forgiveness of his sins and the fulfillment of his debts.' So I said to him: 'O Abu 'Abdullah, what is this supplication?' So he said: 'It is the supplication of the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, he said: 'Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatik, nasiyatii biyadika, madhin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabiika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm-il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jalaa'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.' (O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is forever executed. Your justice over me is assured.
