Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported: The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to teach them this supplication in the face of hardship: 'O Allah, make us secure in our breasts and protect us from our shortcomings, and keep us from where we are falling short, and protect us from the eyes of the disbelievers.' This is how it is taught in Bukhari. And he used to teach them this supplication when they suffered from the heat: 'By the name of Allah. O Allah, give us relief from the heat of Hell, and free us from the Abode of Evil.' And he used to teach them this supplication when they were on a journey: 'O Allah, the good companion on the journey and the vicegerent among the family. O Allah, keep us company on our journey and keep our family behind us. O Allah, shorten the distance for us and make the journey easy for us. O Allah, You are the companion on the journey and the vicegerent among the family.' And he used to teach them this supplication when a child was born, and he would take him and put him in front of him and say: 'By the name of Allah, may Allah protect you with the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every destructive creature, and from every envious eye.'
