Narrated Abu Musa: I had a baby boy. I took him to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and he named him Ibrahim. Then he chewed a date and rubbed it on his son's palate. Then he said: 'Pray for him and ask for his circumcision.' So he was circumcised. Abu Musa said: 'A son was born to me, and I went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) with him, and he named him Ibrahim. He then gave him a date and said: 'O Allah, bless him with it, and make him follow the Sunnah of the Muslims.' Then he said: 'I had a son, and I took him to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he gave him a date, and I asked him to name him. He named him Ibrahim. He then said: 'O Allah, bless him with it, and make him follow the Sunnah of the Muslims.' Then he said: 'I had a son, who was born and I took him to the Prophet (peace be upon him). He named him Ibrahim. He then gave him a date and said: 'O Allah, bless him with it and make him follow the Sunnah of the Muslims.' Abu Musa said: 'I had a son born to me. I took him to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he named him Ibrahim. He then gave him a date and said: 'O Allah, bless him with it, and make him follow the Sunnah of the Muslims.' The narrator said: 'This is the version of the hadith narrated by Ibn 'Ali.' The narrator said: 'Ibn 'Ali said: 'Abu Musa said: 'I had a son born to me. I took him to the Prophet (peace be upon him). He named him Ibrahim. He then gave him a date and said: 'O Allah, bless him with it and make him follow the Sunnah of the Muslims.' The narrator said: 'The hadith is as mentioned by Abu Dawud. The hadith of Ibn 'Ali is: 'O Allah, make him a pious servant.' And this version contains: 'O Allah, bless him with it and make him follow the Sunnah of the Muslims.' Al-Tirmidhi said: This is a hasan hadith. He also said: 'The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'When a child is born, it is recommended to perform the Aqiqah for him, and to shave his head, and to give him a name on the seventh day.' This hadith, particularly the phrase 'O Allah, bless him with it' (Allahumma-j'alhu barakatan 'alayhi), when applied to the context of breastfeeding, signifies seeking Allah's blessing for the milk, the nourishment, and the child's growth.
