In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Allah, I ask You for its (the child's) goodness and the goodness of that which You have created it with. And I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of that which You have created it with. O Allah, make him sound and pious, and teach him the Book, and give him power in Your way, and protect him with Your protection, O the Majestic and Most Generous.
Bismillahi Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim.

This prayer seeks to raise a child who is not only healthy and sound but also God-conscious ('muttaqan') and knowledgeable in the Quran. It’s a powerful supplication for securing a righteous offspring, which is a source of immense reward in this life and the hereafter. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that a righteous child’s prayers can continue to benefit their parents even after they have passed on.

Narrated by Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, "When one of you has a child, he should take the child to his infant, and ask for its being blessed by invoking Allah, and should ask for its being blessed by the supplication of 'Isa bin Maram. The Prophet ﷺ also used to seek refuge for his grandsons Hasan and Husayn, saying: 'I seek refuge for you two in the Perfect Words of Allah from every devil and every beast, and from every evil eye.' Then he would say: 'Your father (Abraham) used to seek refuge for Isma'il and Ishaq with these words.'" (This hadith refers to the general concept of seeking Allah's protection and blessing for children, and the specific dua taught by 'Isa is related in other narrations where the Prophet ﷺ used similar phrases for his grandsons. The given hadith is related to seeking blessings for the child). The dua for the child mentioned here is specifically taught by the Prophet ﷺ when a child is born.
