May Allah bless you in His gift to you, may you show gratitude to the Giver, may the child reach the age of maturity, and may you be granted its obedience.

Barakallahu laka fil-mawhoobi laka, wa shakaral-wahibu, wa balagha ashuddahu, wa ruziqta birrahu

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates the holistic well-being of a child from an Islamic perspective. Source & Authentication

The narration comes from Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: When one of you is blessed with a child, he should take hold of its forelock and ask for it to be blessed, and then ask for its good. For the Prophet ﷺ used to teach them this when they were blessed with a child: 'Barakallahu laka fil-mawhoobi laka, wa shakaral-wahibu, wa balagha ashuddahu, wa ruziqta birrahu.' (May Allah bless you in His gift to you, may you show gratitude to the Giver, may the child reach the age of maturity, and may you be granted its obedience.) - Sunan Abi Dawud 5107. This hadith highlights the importance of seeking Allah's blessings immediately upon the arrival of a newborn and the role of supplication in their upbringing.
