Source & Authentication

Narrated by an-Nuwas bin Sam'an: I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about righteousness and sin. He said: "Righteousness is good character, and sin is that which is disturbing within your chest and you dislike that the people know of it." And I asked him about the turning of the hearts, and he said: "It is the heart of a human being which is between the fingers of Ar-Rahman (the Most Gracious), He turns it however He wills." (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 2140). The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) also used to say: 'O Allah, Reformer of the hearts, make my heart firm on Your religion.'
