Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 5084

O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all matters, and I ask You for determination in guidance. I ask You to make me grateful for Your favors and good in worshipping You. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I ask You for the good of what You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know.

Allahumma inni as'alukath-thabata fil-amr, wa as'aluka 'azeematar-rushdi, wa as'aluka shukra ni'matika, wa husna 'ibadatika, wa as'aluka qalban saleeman, wa lisaanan sadqan, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lamu, wa as'aluka min khairi ma ta'lamu, wa astaghfiruka mimma ta'lamu.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses comprehensive requests for spiritual strength and well-being. Asking for 'steadfastness in all matters' (ath-thabat fil-amr) is crucial when facing uncertainty, as it helps us remain firm in our faith and actions. Seeking 'determination in guidance' ('azeematar-rushd) means asking Allah to grant us the resolve to follow the right path, even when it's difficult. The request for gratitude and good worship strengthens our connection with Allah. A 'sound heart' (qalban saleeman) is the ultimate state of purity, free from doubt and malice, essential for inner peace. Finally, seeking refuge from evil and asking for good, coupled with seeking forgiveness, covers all aspects of seeking Allah's protection and mercy. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his companion Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and advised him to say it in his prayers, highlighting its importance and comprehensive nature.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): I said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: 'Teach me something to say in my prayer.' He said: 'Say: O Allah, I have wronged myself greatly, and none can forgive sins except You. So forgive me with Your forgiveness and have mercy on me. Verily, You are the Oft-Forgiving, the Most Merciful.' (This part is from Sahih al-Bukhari 6326). Then he said: 'And say: O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all matters, and I ask You for determination in guidance. I ask You to make me grateful for Your favors and good in worshipping You. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I ask You for the good of what You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for what You know.'
