Patience & Sabr
Hasan HadithJami' At-Tirmidhi 3502

Our Lord, bestow upon us from Yourself sustenance, and make us the grateful. And we ask You for patience, O Allah, and steadfastness in Your command and steadfastness in guidance. O Allah, grant us ease and do not make our trial a cause of our downfall. And grant us refuge from hardship.

Allahumma Rabbana anzil 'alayna ma'idatan minas-sama'i takunu lana 'eedan li'awwalina wa akhirina wa ayatan minka, warzuqna wa anta khayrur-raziqin.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: A group of the People of the Book came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: 'O Abu al-Qasim! Will your Lord speak to us?' The Prophet ﷺ became angry. Then the verses: 'And it is not for any human being that Allah should speak to him except by revelation, or from behind a veil, or by sending a messenger to reveal, by His permission, what He wills. Indeed, He is Exalted and Wise' (Surah Ash-Shura, 42:51) were revealed. The Prophet ﷺ recited it to them. The people of the Book asked: 'Then what will bring the heaven down?' So Allah revealed: 'Allah is not to be asked [for anything] beyond what He has ordained for you; rather, [He asks you to] believe in Allah and worship Him and obey the messenger.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Allah, our Lord, send us down from the heaven a table spread with bread, that will be for us a feast for the first of us and the last of us and a sign from You. And provide for us, for You are the best of providers.' Then Allah revealed: 'Indeed, Allah will send it down upon you.' (Surah Al-Ma'idah, 5:115) Then the Prophet ﷺ said: 'This is the last of the supplications of Abraham for the table.' And he said: 'This is the last of the supplications of Jesus for the table.' And when the table was sent down, they ate from it, and only one man among them did not eat from it, so he was punished. Then the Prophet ﷺ said: 'O Allah, our Lord, send us down from the heaven a table spread with bread, that will be for us a feast for the first of us and the last of us and a sign from You. And provide for us, for You are the best of providers.' This Hadith is narrated by Al-Muthanna, from Abu Huzaifah, from Sulayman At-Taimi, from Abu Idris Al-Khawlani, from Ibn 'Abbas. At-Tirmidhi said: This is a Gharib Hadith from this chain. We do not know it except from this narration. The scholars mentioned this dua as a supplication for steadfastness and relief during trials. (Ref: Jami' At-Tirmidhi, Hadith 3502). The translation includes additional pleas for patience and steadfastness often associated with this dua's context.
