Dua for Steadfastness Against Social Pressure

Patience & Sabr
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 2632

O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all matters, and firmness in guidance. I ask You to grant me gratitude for Your blessings and excellence in worshipping You. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I ask You for the good of what You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for whatever You know.

Allahumma inni as'alukath-thabata fil-amr, wal-'azeemata 'alar-rushd, wa as'aluka shukra ni'matika, wa husna 'ibadatika, wa as'aluka qalban saleeman, wa lisaanan saadiqan, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lam, wa as'aluka min khairi ma ta'lam, wa astaghfiruka mimma ta'lam.

This comprehensive dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked for something beneficial, covers essential aspects of faith. It asks for firmness in following Islam, the ability to recognize and act upon right guidance, thankfulness for Allah's favors, and a sincere devotion to worship. It also seeks protection from hidden evils and requests all the good that Allah knows, along with forgiveness for any shortcomings. The request for a 'sound heart' and 'truthful tongue' are pillars of good character, essential for navigating social situations with integrity.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Abdullah bin Mas'ud that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "O Abdullah bin Mas'ud, learn these words and teach them to the people after you and fulfill this need for them." I said: "What should I learn, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all matters, and firmness in guidance. I ask You to grant me gratitude for Your blessings and excellence in worshipping You. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You from the good of what You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I seek Your forgiveness for whatever You know." So Abdullah bin Mas'ud taught it to his children, and he taught it to his children, and he taught it to his children. (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 2632)
