O Ever-Living, O Sustainer! By Your mercy I seek help. Rectify for me all of my affairs and do not entrust me to myself even for the blink of an eye.
Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum, bi rahmatika astagheeth, aslih li sha'ni kullah, wa la takilni ila nafsi tarfata 'ayn.
When to Read
This powerful dua is perfect for times when you've made a heartfelt supplication to Allah (SWT) and are now waiting for its fulfillment. It's especially potent when the waiting period feels long, and you find your patience wearing thin. Recite it after your obligatory prayers, during the blessed hours of the night, or whenever you feel your resolve weakening.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction, fully trusting in Allah's perfect timing and wisdom. Raise your hands, as is the Sunnah when making dua, and feel the deep reliance you have on your Creator. Reflect on the meaning: acknowledging His ever-living sustenance and begging for His direct intervention in your life, knowing that you are incapable of managing your affairs perfectly on your own.
Virtues & Benefits
This supplication encapsulates reliance on Allah (SWT) and acknowledges our utter need for His constant support. By calling upon the Ever-Living (Al-Hayy) and the Self-Subsisting Sustainer (Al-Qayyum), we are invoking Allah by His most magnificent names. Seeking His mercy (rahmah) highlights our hope in His boundless compassion. The latter part, asking Him to rectify all our affairs and not leave us to ourselves, is a profound admission of our weakness and His absolute power. It reminds us that even the slightest moment of being left to our own devices can lead to missteps, thus reinforcing our need for His guidance and protection throughout the waiting period.

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to the Prophet (peace be upon him): 'O Messenger of Allah, how do I respond if I call upon Allah?' He said: 'Yes, O my daughter.' So Fatimah said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the supplication?' He said: 'Say: O Ever-Living, O Sustainer! By Your mercy I seek help. Rectify for me all of my affairs and do not entrust me to myself even for the blink of an eye.' So Fatimah recited it and I (Anas) recited it and the others recited it."
