Dua for Patience When Facing Drought and Scarcity

Patience & Sabr
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 7

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan

When to Read

This dua is specifically recommended by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to be recited in the morning. During times of extreme drought or scarcity, reciting it consistently can help imbue our hearts with the understanding that true provision comes from Allah, fostering patience and reliance on Him, rather than succumbing to despair.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction after Fajr prayer. Focus on the meaning of each part: seeking knowledge that benefits us, seeking provisions that are pure and lawful, and seeking deeds that are accepted by Allah. Visualize Allah's mercy and His ability to provide even in the direst circumstances. Raise your hands as you make the dua, as is the practice for supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful morning dua encapsulates a believer's holistic reliance on Allah. By asking for beneficial knowledge, we seek understanding that guides us through trials. By asking for goodly provision, we acknowledge that Allah is the ultimate Sustainer, even when external resources seem scarce. By asking for acceptable deeds, we focus on what we *can* control – our worship and obedience to Allah, finding solace and purpose amidst hardship. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us that whoever recites this in the morning, if they die that day, they will enter Paradise, and if they witness the evening, they will have attained a similar status. (Sahih Muslim 7:10). This highlights the immense value Allah places on turning to Him with sincere supplication and seeking what is truly beneficial.

Source & Authentication

Fatimah bint Qays (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when he finished his morning prayer, would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.) She further stated that if he survived that day, he would not leave it without having done something like it. And when he performed the evening prayer, he would say the like of that.
