Dua for Patience When Facing Betrayal of Trust

Patience & Sabr
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2708

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the reversal of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that displeases You. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the distress of matters, evil decrees, the rejoicing of enemies, the loss of blessings, the change of well-being, and the suddenness of punishment, and all that displeases You.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatek. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adalil-amri, wa su'il-qada'i, wa shamatatil-a'da'i, wa dhawalin-ni'mah, wa tahawwulil-'afiyah, wa fuja'atin-niqmah, wa jami'i sakhatek.

When to Read

When you feel the sting of betrayal, when trust has been broken and you feel hurt, confused, or angry. Recite this dua to seek Allah's protection from the devastating effects of such trials and to find strength to endure.

How to Read

Recite with sincerity and focus, raising your hands as is customary for seeking refuge. Truly believe that Allah is the only one who can protect you from the hardship and grant you patience. Reflect on the words and their meaning as you say them.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua seeks Allah's protection against severe trials that can shake one's life. Betrayal of trust can lead to immense distress ('adalil-amri) and a sense of injustice (su'il-qada'i), and the rejoicing of enemies (shamatatil-a'da'i) can compound the pain. By seeking refuge in Allah, we are asking Him to shield us from the worst impacts of such situations, helping us to maintain our faith and composure, which is the essence of patience (sabr).

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to seek refuge (in Allah) with these words: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fuja'ati niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatek.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, the reversal of Your protection, the suddenness of Your punishment, and all that displeases You.) He also said: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adalil-amri, wa su'il-qada'i, wa shamatatil-a'da'i, wa dhawalin-ni'mah, wa tahawwulil-'afiyah, wa fuja'atin-niqmah, wa jami'i sakhatek.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the distress of matters, evil decrees, the ש rejoice of enemies, the loss of blessings, the change of well-being, and the suddenness of punishment, and all that displeases You.)
